There are so many things we quietly save for later.
The beautiful candle we don’t light because we’re waiting for a special evening.
The book sitting untouched because we tell ourselves we’ll read it when life becomes less busy.
The trip we keep thinking about.
The hobby we want to return to.
Even rest can become something we promise ourselves we’ll get to eventually.
When things calm down.
When I have more time.
When I’ve accomplished enough.
But life has a way of continuing.
There will always be another responsibility waiting for us. Another email. Another errand. Another reason that today doesn’t feel like quite the right day.
And somewhere along the way, we can become so focused on preparing for a beautiful life that we forget we’re already living one.
I’ve been thinking lately about how often we treat joy as something that needs to be earned.
As though the quiet morning, the fresh flowers, the afternoon spent reading, or the long walk with nowhere particular to be should come only after everything else has been completed.
But everything will never be completed.
Maybe that’s the point.
Perhaps we aren’t supposed to wait until life becomes perfectly organized before allowing ourselves to enjoy it.
Maybe the ordinary Tuesday morning deserves the beautiful cup.
Maybe we can light the candle even when no one is coming over.
Maybe twenty minutes with a book is enough.
Maybe we don’t need an occasion at all.
There is a life happening between all the big moments we’re waiting for.
A life made from open windows and familiar songs. From sunlight moving across the floor. From meals we love, conversations that linger, and those rare mornings when we don’t immediately reach for the clock.
These things may seem small.
But perhaps a beautiful life has always been made of small things.
So this week, I’m trying not to save everything good for later.
And maybe there’s something you’ve been saving, too.
Use it.
Wear it.
Open it.
Go.
Rest.
Enjoy the ordinary day you’re already in.
Because someday, we may look back and realize these weren’t the moments between our lives.
They were our lives.
Thank you for spending a little part of your Sunday here.
Until next Sunday,
Lauren 🌸
