There are things I once thought I wanted forever.
Certain plans. Certain versions of success. Certain ideas about what my life was supposed to look like.
And for a while, I held onto them simply because I had wanted them for so long.
Changing your mind can feel strange.
Sometimes we convince ourselves that because we once dreamed of something, we have to keep pursuing it—even when it no longer feels like ours.
We think changing direction means we failed.
But I’ve started to see it differently.
Maybe changing your mind isn’t always giving up.
Sometimes it’s simply realizing that you’ve changed.
The person who made that old plan isn’t exactly the same person standing here today.
We’ve experienced more.
We’ve learned more about ourselves.
We’ve discovered what drains us, what restores us, what matters deeply, and what doesn’t matter nearly as much as we once believed.
And naturally, our dreams change with us.
There is something freeing about admitting:
I don’t want that anymore.
Or even:
I still want it, just not in the way I once imagined.
We don’t owe our younger selves the exact life they pictured.
We can appreciate the dreams that carried us this far without allowing them to decide where we have to go next.
Maybe success looks quieter now.
Maybe home means somewhere different.
Maybe the things that once impressed us don’t anymore.
Maybe we’re beginning to value time, peace, freedom, creativity, or experiences more than the things we were once taught to chase.
That doesn’t mean we’re lost.
It might mean we’re finally paying attention.
There will always be pressure to explain why we’ve changed.
But perhaps every change doesn’t require an explanation.
Sometimes the most truthful thing we can say is:
This doesn’t feel like me anymore.
And then give ourselves permission to discover what does.
So if something you’ve wanted for years suddenly doesn’t fit the person you’re becoming, you don’t have to force yourself back into it.
You are allowed to reconsider.
You are allowed to choose again.
You are allowed to build a life that looks completely different from the one you once imagined.
Changing your mind doesn’t erase the journey that brought you here.
Sometimes, it’s proof that the journey changed you.
Thank you for spending a little part of your Sunday here.
Until next Sunday,
Lauren 🌸
