There’s a particular kind of quiet that arrives near the end of summer.

Nothing has completely changed yet.

The trees are still green. The afternoons are still warm. The sunlight still stretches into the evening. And yet, if you pay attention, something feels a little different.

The light seems softer.

The evenings arrive a little sooner.

Every now and then, there’s a breeze that feels like a small reminder that another season is waiting.

I think life has seasons like this, too.

Times when we haven’t quite left one chapter, but we can already feel another beginning to take shape.

It can be tempting to rush through these in-between moments. We start thinking about what comes next, what needs to change, what we should be working toward.

But maybe we don’t always need to hurry.

Maybe there is something worth noticing here, too.

The space between where we’ve been and where we’re going can give us a chance to look around and ask ourselves what we actually want to bring with us.

What felt good this season?

What became heavier than it needed to be?

What have we outgrown?

And what small things would we like to make more room for?

You don’t have to have all of those answers today.

Sometimes it’s enough to notice the changing light through the window, enjoy the warmth while it’s still here, and allow the next season to arrive in its own time.

There will be plenty of time for autumn.

For now, I’m staying here just a little longer—in the quiet between seasons.

A Sunday thought

Before this season ends, what is one thing you’d like to carry with you into the next one?
